Snow Day

I made a run to my daughter's home and took a few snapshots today around noon. The city is Murieta, California - located between Los Angeles and San Diego, CA. It normally doesn't snow here.

Southern California kids don't usually have snow toys. I saw boogie boards (ocean), wake boards, a raft, and pool toys. Anything that will slide down a snowy hill.

Being a Dad

My daughter, Emilie posted this today. You can see that I've had gray hair for quite a while now. Tossing the kids on my shoulders was always one of my favorite ways to haul them from point A to point B. In the photo below, I had just returned from the First Gulf War and was wearing a SEAL t-shirt. A thirty pound girl was nothing to a 105 lbs load out.

As tough as other things are, nothing is as important as being a parent and setting the best example that I could. Nobody is perfect, but the kids always treated me as though I was.

Secret Rooms

The house that has almost everything and forgets to build a secret passage, gun room, panic room or whatever you want to call it, misses the purpose for a castle.

I always admired those paintings with the eyes that could be removed and replaced by the eyes of the 'watcher' in old movies. I think that this is where my obsession began. Every old castle movie had secret passages that were revealed as you tugged on a candle stick or removed a dusty old tome from the shelf.
