Language being what it is, becomes a political tool as national leaders mask one intention with honeyed words. On November 1, 2009, General Xu Qiliang announced (Source: Xinhua News Agency) in conjunction with the People's Liberation Army Air Force's 60th Birthday, that China intended to militarize Space (Earth Orbit) and attain military superiority in Space for the purpose of peace.
It does make sense - Military supremacy in outer space would mean that the Chinese would be able to defend their nation better. Then again, there is a flip side.

Everybody wants to be a hegemon. Obama is certainly not the guy to take the wind out of their sails.
The Chinese problem is a domestic problem. Perhaps I should do some blog posts on that. Their tech advantage stems at least 80% from effective espionage against the US and other nations.
China ever so badly wants to rule the world. Of course they tend to stumble, except for the occasional really well done espionage case, when they get out of the East. At the moment they are at the height of power as regards the U.S. They have an almost monopoly on the manufacture of goods for WalMart. If that ain't power, what is?
