Corkscrew Pass, so named for the steep, winding mining road that takes you up the "staircase" to the pass, still had a lot of snow at the end of July.

This hill is called "Red Mountain".
At this point we're at somewhere around 12,000 ft per the map terrain lines.

How can you even breathe to sit up straight at that elevation. Gorgeous pics. Love the red rock.
Opus -- I don't have photos but we rescued a guy with the winch on my truck at 13000 ft yesterday. He wasn't part of our group but he went off the road with his wife and daughter into a snow field that led to a 200 ft. cliff of sorts. I was puffing and sucking air with very little exertion. Living at sea level has its disadvantages because I'm not acclimated here.
We ended up circling around under him, connected two straps to the winch line and dragged him down. He'd gone over a ledge and we weren't able to drag him up over the ledge without rolling his truck.
Too busy saving lives to snap photos. Congrats on a deed well done.
Wow, it sounds like a close call for that family, good thing you came along with your rig!
Too bad I missed you by a month, I would have come along for a ride and been scared half to death! lol It looks like a fun trip.
