Dyson Vacuum Cleaners

My daughter, Heather, was laid off work and lost her full time job, managing 50 people in the fashion industry because the company downsized a year ago (horrible economy in California). Today she starts her part-time job demonstrating Dyson Vacuum Cleaners at the Yorba Linda Costco. And before you sneer, it's a job. Heather has a B. S. in Business from Cal-Poly and a second B. S. from the same educational institution in Marketing. However, like me (and in fact in my house), she lives in California. Even a part time job demonstrating vacuum cleaners is reason to celebrate in this economy. With US$5.00 per gallon gasoline and increasing taxes, there is no indication that the economy here will improve anytime soon.

BUT the vacuums, fans and Dyson stuff is cool. It has nothing to do with my daughter's job. However thanks to her new employer, I've discovered a world of cool stuff that I never would have thought of as trendy, smart and effective.

Can somebody love a vacuum cleaner?

It would seem that the answer is yes.

I have been an Oreck woman for years, but I will have to keep an open mind. Congrats to Heather for finding work in this difficult economy.

No sneer here. She found a job and even has an opportunity to work her way up the ladder with Dyson. Wish her luck. Nothing I can do about the gas prices, though.

Opus #6, honest work is never bad, and yes, I own an Oreck and wouldn't buy one again after comparing it to the Dyson.

Coffeypot, thanks for the kind words.

LL that's spirit, spunk and drive to take a job which Heather is obviously overqualified for. Way to go Heather!

I was looking at these vacuums a few weeks ago and was going to do some research on them, when this vacuum I own is ready to retire I want something just like this; portable, easy to use and it appears to work well. If you give one of these a try please let me know how it works k?

Cheers.

Oh and I know it's not even Halloween yet and early to be thinking Christmas, we have family who comes in from out of town for this party and it's good to give everyone time to plan and prepare, don't you think? See I'm thinking ahead so everyone has plenty of notice and hopefully can attend, not only those of us who live in the city. Brilliant I'd say! lol

I know how tough it is LL! It took quite a while to get this job I have at the bank. And just a few weeks ago I had lunch with the MD (who's American btw) and she was telling me that we're in for a pretty tough time. Here in SA - with the price of Petrol/Gas shooting up to record prices, as well as dramatic increases in the price of wheat & corn, it looks like we're going to have food shortages next year. Add to that, Europes woes impact on us quite heavily, unemployment is stagnant or getting worse, and we're not coming out of the recession any time soon. Other events that will impact us is the coming US election and the political instability at the moment (with all the strikes going on here). All we can do is pray.

Azra, I fall back to the mantra: Tough times never last but tough people do. However it makes 'living the dream' a lot more challenging.

Got here via BZ.
I frequently say, "I've been employed and unemployed. Bein' employed is preferable."
It's easier to find a job when you have one. Good for your daughter.

So you like helicopters?
Me too.

Well, I commend your daughter for getting back up again. And congratulations on her new job! There is definitely nothing wrong with her new job, as long as it is legal and does not put anyone in contempt. Anyway, it’s not yet the end of her career life, right? She still has a big future to face, in terms of her profession. If she has a good record on her past employment, she can definitely find better jobs in the future. :)
