The Sounds of Silence

I loved working at night because the world was so different in the night. Sometimes human conduct in the shadows is debase and depraved. For the most part, the world is asleep, and they rely on guardians of the night.

Today the night means that the phone won't ring. I won't be disturbed. I can read, or think, or write from the soul without distractions.

There's not much that hot led and cold steel won't stop, Kelly. I take comfort in that.

Does this mean you want me to call more at night?

I love the night too - the kids are asleep and I can finally relax (except when I hear "Mommy" at 2am and then I know I'm in trouble).

Since I have been working graveyard for a lot my career I also agree with this. There is something neat and peaceful about the middle of the night. It is very noisy but at the same time it is also silent. Not only is there different types of people out at 3am there is also different types of animals like coyotes, skunks, rabbits, raccoons and opossums that the normal world never gets to see. And when the shit hits the fan, it's the police that world calls. B.F.
